51 Probanden wurden ausgewählt und in zwei Gruppen eingeteilt: diejenigen, die neu in die Behandlung aufgenommen wurden (Gruppe 1) und diejenigen, die seit mehr als 1 Jahr in Behandlung waren (Gruppe 2). Es gab 32 Teilnehmer in Gruppe 1 und 19 in Gruppe 2. Das Durchschnittsalter für Gruppe 1 war 41,7 und Gruppe 2 war 50,5. Die Altersspanne für Gruppe 1 lag zwischen 21 und 66 Jahren und für Gruppe 2 zwischen 34 und 73 Jahren.
Probanden der Gruppe 1 wurden mit einer Luco-Hybrid-OSA-Apparatur (LHOA) ausgestattet. Sie wurden über einen Zeitraum von 14 Tagen verfolgt, wobei bei Bedarf Anpassungen am Gerät vorgenommen wurden. Die zweite Studie [Meilenstein] wurde damals abgeschlossen.
Probanden der Gruppe 2, die zuvor durchschnittlich 4,1 Jahre mit dem Gerät behandelt worden waren, hatten eine erste Studie mit dem Gerät und eine zweite Studie nach 48 Stunden ohne das Gerät.
Beide Gruppen wurden nach 60 Tagen erneut untersucht und die Ergebnisse verglichen.

Einschlusskriterien:
- 18 Jahre (Erwachsener)
- in der Lage, eine informierte Einwilligung zu geben
- erfüllte die AASM-Kriterien für Schlafbruxismus
- hatte ein gesundes Gebiss
- hatte keine aktive obstruktive Schlafapnoe (OSA)/Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS)
Ausschlusskriterien:
- jünger als 18
- unfähig zu einer informierten Einwilligung
- erfüllte nicht die AASM-Kriterien für Schlafbruxismus
- entdeckte OSA oder UARS in der ersten Studie
- kein gesundes Gebiss hatte (aktive Karies, Parodontitis, unzureichende Anzahl von Zähnen).
- hatte obstruktive Schlafapnoe/UARS
- hat das Studium nicht abgeschlossen
- die Studie abgeschlossen, aber nicht alle Aspekte der Studie abgeschlossen haben

|
Klinische Untersuchung, Schlafstudie und visuelle Analogskala. Klinische Untersuchung der Muskulatur des Probanden, der Kiefergelenke (TMG) und Messung des Umfangs der Unterkieferbewegungen. Die Heimschlafstudie (HSS) maß die Anzahl und Dauer von Bruxismus-Ereignissen im Schlaf sowie die mit diesen Ereignissen verbundene Herzfrequenz. Die visuelle Analogskala (VAS) zeichnete die Reaktion des Patienten in Bezug auf Kiefergelenkschmerzen beim Aufwachen und später am Tag, Kiefermuskelschmerzen beim Aufwachen und später am Tag, Zahnempfindlichkeit gegenüber Temperaturextremen, Spannungs-/Migränekopfschmerzen beim Aufwachen und später am Tag auf Tag und Nacken-/Schulterschmerzen beim Aufwachen und später am Tag. HSS-Bewertung gemäß dem „Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events“ der American Academy of Sleep Medicine für Schlafbruxismus. |
