ACTIVE は、4 群の単盲検ランダム化比較試験でした。 ACTIVE の主な目的は、高齢者の認知の基本的な測定と認知的に要求の厳しい日常活動 (食事の準備、運転、薬の使用、財務管理など) の測定のパフォーマンスを改善するための 3 つの異なる認知介入の有効性と持続性をテストすることでした。 これらの介入は、実験室または小規模なフィールド条件下での認知能力の改善に成功していることが以前に発見されていました。

介入:

さらに、参加者が最初のトレーニングで得た成果を維持し、認知スキルをさらに向上させるために、ブースター トレーニングが提供されました。 初回トレーニングの 11 か月後と 35 ~ 36 か月後に、トレーニング参加者の約 50% のランダム サンプルにブースター トレーニングが提供されました。
参加者の関与には、ベースライン時、介入直後、12、24、36、および 60 か月に実施された評価が含まれていました。 評価は、個人セッションとグループ セッションで実施されました。 介入群に無作為に割り付けられた参加者に対して、介入は小グループ設定で、5~6 週間にわたって 10 回の 60~75 分のセッションで実施されました。 これらは、薬理学的要素のない行動介入でした。 最初のトレーニングが提供されてから 11 か月後、ブースター トレーニングが、3 つの介入群すべてで、最初にトレーニングを受けた被験者の無作為に選択された 60% に提供されました。 ブースター トレーニングは、2 ~ 3 週間にわたって 75 分間のセッションを 4 回実施しました。
