Detaljerad beskrivning
De potentiella långsiktiga fördelarna, toxiciteterna och andra negativa resultat av nya anti-HIV-terapier kan inte bedömas inom tidsramen för de flesta kliniska prövningar. Det finns ett behov av att bättre bedöma både positiva och negativa sena utfall och sena behandlingseffekter hos växande barn. Denna prospektiva, longitudinella studie kommer att utvärdera effekterna och deras inverkan på barn.
Barn i denna studie kommer att inkludera patienter som är HIV-infekterade, exponerades för HIV eller anti-HIV-läkemedel före eller vid tidpunkten för deras födelse, eller barn till patienter som följts vid Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trial Group (PACTG) platser. Barn kommer att ha ett studiebesök var tredje månad under det första levnadsåret. Efter 1 års ålder kommer barn som är HIV-smittade att fortsätta ha studiebesök var tredje månad, medan barn som är HIV-oinfekterade kommer att ha studiebesök en gång om året. Studiebedömningar kommer att inkludera fullständig fysisk undersökning, medicinsk historia, Tanner-stadion, neurologisk undersökning, tillväxt och livskvalitetsbedömningar och laboratorietester som hematologi, kemi och urinanalys. Alla bedömningar kommer inte att göras vid varje studiebesök. Patienterna kommer att följas fram till 24 års ålder.

Inklusionskriterier
- Ålder 21 eller yngre (samtycke från förälder eller vårdnadshavare krävs om under 18 år).
- Uppfyll 1 av följande 3 krav: 1) inskriven i en tidigare version av denna studie; 2) perinatalt exponerad för HIV, HIV-vaccin eller antiretroviral behandling (måste anmälas före första födelsedagen); 3) HIV-infekterade spädbarn, barn och ungdomar (och deras avkomma) följdes vid PACTG-ställen.
