De potentielle langsigtede fordele, toksiciteter og andre negative resultater af nye anti-HIV-terapier kan ikke vurderes inden for tidsrammen for de fleste kliniske forsøg. Der er behov for bedre at vurdere både positive og negative sene resultater og sene behandlingseffekter hos voksende børn. Denne prospektive, longitudinelle undersøgelse vil evaluere virkningerne og deres indvirkning på børn.
Børn i denne undersøgelse vil omfatte patienter, der er HIV-inficerede, var eksponeret for HIV eller anti-HIV-lægemidler før eller på tidspunktet for deres fødsel, eller børn af patienter, der følges på PACTG-steder (Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trial Group). Børn vil have et studiebesøg hver 3. måned gennem det første leveår. Efter 1 års alderen vil børn, der er hiv-smittede, fortsat have studiebesøg hver 3. måned, mens børn, der er hiv-inficerede, vil have studiebesøg en gang årligt. Studievurderinger vil omfatte komplet fysisk undersøgelse, sygehistorie, Tanner-stadieinddeling, neurologisk undersøgelse, vækst- og livskvalitetsvurderinger og laboratorietests såsom hæmatologi, kemi og urinanalyse. Ikke alle vurderinger vil blive udført ved hvert studiebesøg. Patienter vil blive fulgt indtil 24 år.

Inklusionskriterier
- Alder 21 eller yngre (samtykke fra forælder eller værge påkrævet, hvis under 18).
- Opfyld 1 af følgende 3 krav: 1) tilmeldt en tidligere version af denne undersøgelse; 2) perinatalt udsat for HIV, HIV-vacciner eller antiretroviral behandling (skal tilmeldes inden første fødselsdag); 3) HIV-inficerede spædbørn, børn og unge (og deres afkom) fulgte på PACTG-steder.
