湾岸戦争病 (GWI) は、病因が不明な多症状の病気です。 GWI は、湾岸戦争退役軍人の障害の主な原因です。 認知障害は GWI の一般的な症状であり、脳がこの状態の発症に関与していることを示唆しています。 退役軍人が年をとるにつれて、これらの認知的不満は悪化し、老化プロセスによって悪化する可能性があります. GWI は、「加速した」脳の老化の状態である可能性があります。 したがって、GWI の長期的な結果が存在する可能性があり、GWI の存在は、アルツハイマー病 (AD) または他の認知症を発症するリスクを高める可能性があります。 脳卒中などの他の脳関連疾患と比較して、GWI と、この状態が脳の正常な加齢に伴う変化にどのように影響するかについては、比較的ほとんど知られていません。
研究の目的は次のとおりです。
- 湾岸戦争病の退役軍人が、湾岸戦争病のない退役軍人と比較して異常な脳血流調節と自律神経機能障害を示すかどうかを判断すること。
- 退役軍人の脳血流と自律神経系の変数が、認知機能低下に関連する脳老化の他のマーカーと関連しているかどうかを判断すること。

包含基準:
- 1990年から1991年にかけてペルシャ湾に派遣された
- 体重 <300 ポンド
- CMI/CDC およびカンザス定義に基づく湾岸戦争病の診断または湾岸戦争病の診断なし
除外基準:
- 以下の現在または生涯にわたる証拠:II型糖尿病、神経疾患、がん治療、関節リウマチ、狼瘡、双極性障害、精神病性障害、または精神病性を伴う気分障害
- -現在の違法薬物の使用または1年未満の部分的寛解
