Detaljert beskrivelse
Denne studien omfatter utformingen av samt effekten av pre-emulgering av ω-3 fettsyrer på biotilgjengeligheten av dokosaheksaensyre og eikosapentaensyre. In vitro-studier har vist at langsiktig sterisk stabilisering av en o/w-emulsjon oppnås ved å stoppe oljedråpene i en gelatinkontinuerlig gelmatrise. Emulsjonen var også stabil ved oppløsning av gelmatrisen ved fysiologiske forhold in vitro og er derfor referert til som en gastrisk stabil emulsjon (GSE).
I biotilgjengelighetsstudien ble friske unge studenter rekruttert og presenterte to forskjellige enkeltdosebehandlinger av fiskeolje som inneholdt 5 gram ω-3 fettsyrer; den ene gruppen mottok fettsyrene i tradisjonelle myke gelkapsler, mens den andre gruppen mottok fettsyrene ved hjelp av GSE-teknologien. Tidsløst (2 - 26 timer) blodplasmaanalyse etter inntak av denne enkeltdosen ω-3 fettsyrer avslørte signifikant økt AUC0-26 timer og Cmax for EPA og EPA + DHA når de ble administrert som GSE sammenlignet med tradisjonelle myke gelkapsler.

- Frisk (ingen kjent tilstand)
- Hanner og kvinner i alderen 19 til 29 år
Ekskluderingskriterier:
- Fiskeallergi
- Kontinuerlig inntak av omega-3 fettsyrer
- Personer som får antikoagulasjon eller ikke-steroid antiinflammatorisk behandling
- Personer med kjent metabolsk syndrom; diabetes, hyperkolesterol, hypertensjon, fedme
