Trenuj swój mózg: poprawa pamięci i podejmowania decyzji w celu poprawy wyników wśród młodzieży
Celem tego badania klinicznego jest pilotaż komputerowego programu treningu pamięci roboczej, aby poprawić dyskontowanie opóźnień (DD) i zapobiegać używaniu substancji wśród zagrożonych nastolatków na obszarze tradycyjnie niedostatecznie obsłużonym. Wyniki badania będą stanowić podstawę przyszłych wysiłków w zakresie zapobiegania używaniu substancji skierowanych do młodzieży narażonej na niekorzystne doświadczenia z dzieciństwa. Odkrycia pozwolą również udoskonalić przyszłe modele interwencji w społecznościach tradycyjnie niedostatecznie obsłużonych.

Młodzież narażona na przeciwności losu we wczesnym dzieciństwie jest bardziej narażona na problematyczne używanie substancji, co prowadzi do niezliczonych negatywnych skutków zdrowotnych, w tym narażenia na HIV, obrażeń i upośledzonej jazdy. Nastolatki ze społeczności o niskich zasobach wykazują podwyższone wskaźniki narażenia na niekorzystne doświadczenia z dzieciństwa, ale mają ograniczony dostęp do interwencji zapobiegawczych opartych na dowodach. W związku z tym istnieje pilne zapotrzebowanie na usługi, które w realny sposób mogą być ukierunkowane na określone mechanizmy łączące wczesne przeciwności z początkiem i eskalacją używania substancji w społecznościach tradycyjnie niedostatecznie obsłużonych.
Jednym z takich celów jest dyskontowanie opóźnień (DD), tendencja do wybierania małych, natychmiast dostępnych nagród kosztem większych, opóźnionych nagród. DD powiązano z wczesną inicjacją używania substancji oraz częstszym i poważniejszym używaniem w okresie dojrzewania. Co więcej, młodzież narażona na przeciwności losu we wczesnym dzieciństwie wykazuje bardziej problematyczne poziomy DD, co wskazuje, że DD może być ścieżką, przez którą wczesna ekspozycja na traumę prowadzi do używania narkotyków i alkoholu.
Przeprowadzone zostaną iteracyjne badania pilotażowe z udziałem około 10 młodych uczestników + ich rodziców/opiekunów w celu zbadania skuteczności procedur i wstępnych wyników wdrożenia.
Badania naszego zespołu sugerują, że interwencje komputerowe ukierunkowane na proksymalne umiejętności poznawcze, w szczególności pamięć roboczą, mogą poprawić wskaźniki DD. Co więcej, skomputeryzowane interwencje są wysoce przenośne i skalowalne, co czyni je idealnymi do rozpowszechniania w społecznościach o niskich zasobach. Obecny projekt proponuje pilotaż programu szkoleniowego komputerowej pamięci roboczej (WM), aby poprawić DD i zapobiegać używaniu substancji przez zagrożoną młodzież na tradycyjnie zaniedbanym obszarze.

Kryteria włączenia młodzieży:
- Młodzież musi być w wieku od 12 do 14 lat i mieć rodzica/opiekuna chętnego do wyrażenia zgody na ich udział
- Młodzież musi biegle posługiwać się językiem angielskim, aby zaliczyć wszystkie etapy oceny i wziąć udział w szkoleniu komputerowym
- Młodzież musi być gotowa do zaangażowania się w dwa do trzech 20-30-minutowych szkoleń komputerowych przez pięć do siedmiu tygodni
- Młodzież musi być gotowa do wzięcia udziału w ocenach przed i bezpośrednio po interwencji oraz poufnej rozmowie z naukowcami po zakończeniu sesji komputerowych
Kryteria wykluczenia młodzieży:
- Obecnie psychotyczny
- Obecnie myśli samobójcze lub dowody na aktywne myśli samobójcze
- Obecnie zdiagnozowano zaburzenie związane z używaniem substancji

- Rodzic dziecka biorący udział w interwencji i wyrażający zgodę na udział siebie i swoich dzieci
- Biegła znajomość języka angielskiego w celu prawidłowego przejścia wszystkich środków oceny

The Youth Risk Behaviour Survey (YRBS; CDC, 2001) to samoopisowa miara rozpowszechnienia ryzykownych zachowań w świecie rzeczywistym, w tym zachowań zagrażających bezpieczeństwu (np.
