De studie is opgezet als een longitudinale observationele studie gericht op het identificeren van de effecten van Tat-eiwit en humorale/cellulaire anti-Tat-immuunresponsen (geïnduceerd door natuurlijke infectie of door Tat-vaccinatie) in de dynamiek van het HIV-1-reservoir in het bloed van HIV-geïnfecteerde patiënten die kar. HIV-DNA-gegevens zullen worden gebruikt voor het analyseren van de vervaldynamiek.
Het primaire doel van de studie is het bepalen van de snelheid van verval van totaal HIV-DNA in het bloed van anti-Tat antilichaam (Ab) positieve versus anti-Tat Ab negatieve HIV-patiënten die cART krijgen.
De secundaire doelstellingen van de studie zijn om de HIV-DNA-vervalgegevens te relateren aan:
- de persistentie van anti-Tat humorale reacties;
- biomarkers van HIV-reservoirstabiliteit die mogelijk worden beïnvloed door het Tat-eiwit of anti-Tat immuunresponsen, waaronder: i) apoptotische/overlevingsindex van CD4+ T-cellen; ii) reactiveringsdynamiek van latent HIV in rustende CD4+ T-cellen na blootstelling aan Tat-eiwit en/of activeringsstimuli; iii) cellulaire en humorale biomarkers die relevant zijn voor ontsteking en immuundisregulatie.

Inclusiecriteria:
- Leeftijd ≥18 jaar
- Diagnose van HIV-1-infectie
- Om onder cART-behandeling te zijn
- Aantal CD4+ T-cellen ≥250 cellen/microliter
- Testen op anti-Tat Ab uitgevoerd tijdens pre-screening
- Ondertekende geïnformeerde toestemming
Uitsluitingscriteria:
1. Huidige therapie met immunomodulatoren of immunosuppressiva of chemotherapie voor neoplastische aandoeningen.
