In deze studie analyseren de onderzoekers de invloed van voeding tijdens de vroege neonatale periode op de ontwikkeling en preventie van atopische dermatitis (AD) bij kinderen met een voorgeschiedenis van een zeer laag geboortegewicht (VLBW). Er werd een retrospectief cohortonderzoek uitgevoerd bij premature VLBW-zuigelingen om het risico te beoordelen op het ontwikkelen van AD tijdens de kindertijd, op basis van voeding met moedermelk en/of probiotische suppletie tijdens de neonatale periode. De analyse concentreerde zich op follow-upgegevens over voeding en vroege kinderjaren voor 437 pasgeborenen, van wie 184 probiotica kregen tot de postmenstruele leeftijd van 36 weken.
De neonatale geschiedenis van de patiënten werd geraadpleegd in hun elektronische medische dossiers (zwangerschapsduur; geboortegewicht; antropometrie bij de geboorte, eerste week en week 36 na de menstruatie; voedingsmanagement; toediening van probiotica), en de aanwezigheid van atopische ziekten op schoolleeftijd. werd bevestigd door telefonische interviews.
De beschrijvende datum werd samengevat met behulp van medianen en interkwartielintervallen voor de continue variabelen en distributiefrequenties voor de categoriale variabelen. Univariate vergelijkingen werden gemaakt door de Mann-Whitney-test voor de continue variabelen en door de chi-kwadraattest voor de categorische variabelen. De associatie van comorbiditeiten bij VLBW-pasgeborenen en suppletie met het ene of andere type probioticum werd geëvalueerd met een multinomiale regressieanalyse, waarbij de variabelen werden gecorrigeerd die de meeste verschillen vertoonden in de homogene analyse van de studiogroepen. De analyse werd uitgevoerd met behulp van IBM SPSS 20.0 voor Windows-software

- Pasgeborene met een zwangerschapsduur < of = 32 weken en/of geboortegewicht < of = 1500 gram.
Uitsluitingscriteria:
- Onvolledige gezondheidsgeschiedenis of gebrek aan gegevens.
- Ernstige aangeboren afwijkingen.

De onderzoekers zullen tijdens een telefonisch interview de aanwezigheid van atopische dermatitis (jeuk en chronische of terugkerende eczemateuze laesies met typische morfologie en verspreiding) beoordelen.

In de groep patiënten die probiotica kregen troffen we twee groepen aan, de ene groep kreeg Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus ATCC 53103 en de andere groep kreeg de combinatie Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356 + Bifidobacterium bifidum ATCC 15696.
Er zal worden geprobeerd vast te stellen of er verschillen tussen beide bestaan.
